85 an hour 3 days ago 3 days ago 3 days ago ABOUT THE POSITION Accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines and ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
Downloads daily-monthly route reading data to the equipment and computer terminal to be used in billing and performs special meter readings as requested through service orders.
Requires employee to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Department, city employees, and the general public and to responds to citizen's questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.
Operates computer equipment using standard or customized software applications appropriate to prepare and present accurate and reliable reports containing findings and recommendations.
Understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures and instructions.
Walks for long periods of time and work in all weather conditions or drives over the established route and takes readings of meter dials and enters meter reads manually or electronically.
Inspects meter and connections for defects, damage, and unauthorized connections and indicate on service order for necessary action.
Deliver delinquent and shut-off billing notices to customers, performs meter disconnects and reconnects as requested.
Clean, maintain, and install meter boxes; remove meters up to 1; take apart to clean and/or repair, clean main service line and replace angle stops as needed.
Process work requested on service orders issued for meter leaks, no pressure, water quality, customer service calls, installation or replacement of water meters up to 1, assist Water Department in removing and replacing main service lines, and occasionally flush fire hydrant to clean out main water line.
Maintains an accurate inventory of tools and supplies assigned for work assignments.
Performs other related duties as assigned in support of the Department.
IDEAL CANDIDATE Will have knowledge of:
Geography and street locations of the City of San Luis service area.
Department policies and procedures, city codes and ordinances pertaining to utility customer services, water-metering functions.
Reading equipment, methods, procedures and practices.
Basic mathematical calculations.
Record keeping and file maintenance procedures.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards of semi-skilled personnel, including OSHA standards.
Will have the ability to:
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others and interact with the public.
Follow verbal, oral, and written instructions in English.
Use required tools and materials for repairs, replacement, and installations of water lines, meters, and equipment in relation to providing water service.
Pass an extensive background check.
Work independently in the absence of supervision.
Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Required:
A high school diploma or GED with one (1) year of experience in customer service or maintenance for public utilities or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Basic mathematical skills and data entry experience.
Depending upon the needs of the City, some incumbents of the class may be required to demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English as a condition of employment.
A valid Arizona driver's license at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
Residency in the United States and within 25 miles of the City of San Luis.
Desired/Preferred:
Bilingual in Spanish.
San Luis residency.
One year or more of recent experience performing physical outdoor duties under all weather conditions within the past three years.
